THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR To Play at the Overtime Theater

THE-MOST-WONDERFUL-TIME-OF-THE-YEAR-To-Play-at-the-Overtime-Theater-20010101

In December 2011, the Overtime Theater will present a new comedy about the holidays, The Most Wonderful Time of the Year, written by James Hartz and directed by Justin Laughlin.

On Christmas Eve, George Moore's household is bursting with the holiday spirit with lavish decorations, plenty of food, and joy for all around. It seems to be the ideal Christmas; however, when George's estranged brother, Billy, unexpectedly shows up the foundations of this winter wonderland begin to crack. As the brothers confront each other, secrets on both sides are revealed which might make this Christmas their last. The Most Wonderful Time of the Year is a comedy that has all the yelling, laughing, lying, and violence that only the holidays can bring.

About the Overtime Theater

In business since 2007, the Overtime Theater is dedicated to providing innovative and accessible entertainment at an affordable price. The shows are all new, original works, or unconventional adaptations of old classics. The Overtime Theater specializes in world premieres of works never before seen on stage!

The Overtime Theater produces approximately 8 new full-length plays every year. In just four years, the Overtime has produced over 30 new shows, including five original musicals: Sheer Bloody Lunacy!, Pirates Vs. Ninjas, The Brain That Wouldn’t Die: A New Musical, Dr. S Battles the Sex-Crazed Reefer Zombies: The Movie: The Musical, and D.O.A. a Noir Musical.

The Overtime Theater has received recognition and awards in its short existence. The Happy Couple, staged in 2010, won three ATAC Globe Awards. Two productions, Broken Record and Dr. S Battles the Sex-Crazed Reefer Zombies: The Movie: The Musical, won 6 ATAC Globe Awards in 2011, including Original Script, Adapted Script, and Musical Score. Last year the San Antonio Express-News picked three Overtime productions as part of its “Best of 2010” round-up: The Happy Couple, Broken Record, and Dr. S Battles the Sex Crazed Reefer Zombies: The Movie: The Musical. In both 2010 and 2011, the Overtime Theater was selected by the San Antonio Current as the “Best Theater Company” in its annual Readers’ Choice Poll.

Other shows that were critical and audience favorites in 2011 included All Good Things, The Decorator, Life Or a Reasonable Approximation Thereof, and Ugly People. Overtime offerings also include weekly improv comedy by The Denials and the cult monthly smash hit comedy, The Adventures of Captain Cortez & the Tri-Lambda Brigade. The Overtime Theater collaborates with local visual artists, giving them a prominent local space in which to display their works in the Blue Star Complex.

The Overtime Theater is now a non-profit organization as determined by the IRS. This decision has been made to extend the Overtime’s mission of “art for the people” to the greater community, including through low-cost workshops in acting, playwriting, comedy improv skills, and art by working professionals.
