The Classic Theatre in San Antonio has announced its 2012-13 season, kicking off with The Firebugs and closing with Scapin, with some great selections in between. Check out more details below!

The Firebugs by Max Frisch
October 12-28, 2012

The Firebugs is a dark comedy by Swiss playwright Max Frisch. Gottlieb Biedermann, a cautious German businessman, discovers that the two men who have entered his home disguised as salesmen are the arsonists who have already burned down much of the town. He and his wife, concerned only with saving themselves and their home, lodge them, feed them a sumptuous dinner, and provide them with all the matches they can possibly use -- all of which serves only to postpone the inevitable holocaust.

It’s a Wonderful Life, A live radio play by Joe Landry

Four Performances ONLY! Start the holidays off with this beloved American holiday classic brought to captivating life as a live 1940s radio broadcast. With the help of an ensemble that brings a few dozen characters to the stage, the story of idealistic George Bailey unfolds as he considers ending his life one fateful Christmas Eve. An angel helps the despairingly frustrated George by showing what life would have been like if he never existed.

(It’s a Wonderful Life is a special engagement, in addition to the regular season. Season pass holders receive a discount through September 30th but must purchase tickets separately.)

Painting Churches by Tina Howe
February 8-24, 2013.

Painting Churches, written by Tina Howe, was a finalist for the 1982 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Mags Church, a successful artist, is determined to paint her parents--her flaky, jabbering mother, and her absent-minded father who is tumbling into senility. But when Mags attempts to paint the Churches, she is forced to confront her complicated feelings for the two unusual folks who raised her, overcome her childhood neuroses, and permit an honest portrait to come into view.

Scapin by Moliere adapted by Bill Irwin and Mark O'Donnell
May 10-26, 2013.
Directed by Matthew Byron Cassi

Scapin, adapted by Bill Irwin and Mark O’Donnell from Moliere, is based on the Commedia dell’Arte archetypical Scapino character. Scapin constantly lies and tricks people to get ahead. He is an arrogant, pompous man who acts as if nothing were impossible for him. However, he is also a diplomatic genius. He manages to play the other characters off of each other very easily, and yet manages to keep his overall goal — to help the young couples — in sight.

Performances are Friday & Saturday at 8:00 PM and Sunday at 3:00 PM. All performances are at the Sterling Houston Theatre at Jump-Start, 108 Blue Star in the Blue Star Arts Complex, 1400 S. Alamo. The theatre is handicap accessible. Call 210-589-8450 for special arrangements.
