SLEEPERÂ'S WAKE Comes To The Overtime Theater

SLEEPERS-WAKE-Comes-To-The-Overtime-Theater-20010101

As the second offering of its 2012 season, the Overtime Theater in San Antonio will present a new drama, Sleepers Wake.

About the show: "Set in the shadow of 9/11, the play focuses on the question: What if a terrorist changed his mind? Samir (Sam) Al-Hamza is a former member of the Mujaheddin who has come to the USA to conduct terrorist attacks in the San Antonio area. Living undercover as a restaurateur in Hondo, he develops relationships with the locals that challenge his loyalties. When his past comes calling, he is forced to decide once and for all what it means to serve God."

Sleepers Wake is the first offering from writer James D.W. Peden to be staged at the Overtime since his short play, The Book of Judith, was staged as part of the Ides of Texas series in March of 2009. It is directed by Morgan Clyde who, in addition to numerous stage appearances around town, directed Frames by Sharon Argo on the Overtime stage in April of 2010.

“I'm most looking forward to getting the chance to explore these very deep, very real characters,” Clyde says, “There's a lot of intricacies and subtlety to them that's proving to be really fascinating to explore, both for the actors and for myself.”

This drama and its controversial subject matter should keep San Antonio talking for some time to come.

About the Overtime Theater

In business since 2007, the Overtime Theater is dedicated to providing innovative and accessible entertainment at an affordable price. The shows are all new, original works, or unconventional adaptations of old classics. The Overtime Theater specializes in world premieres of works never before seen on stage!

In just four years, the Overtime has produced over 40 new shows, including five original musicals: Sheer Bloody Lunacy!, Pirates Vs. Ninjas, The Brain That Wouldn’t Die: A New Musical, Dr. “S” Battles the Sex-Crazed Reefer Zombies: The Movie: The Musical and DOA: A Noir Musical. Other notable productions have included The Good Samaritan, Poet Faustus, Sob! Choke…LOVE!, Action Philosophers, and most recently, the world premieres in 2010-2011 of The Hard Bargain, The Happy Couple, The Last Broadcast of Bailey & Long, Broken Record, All Good Things, The Decorator, and Ugly People. The Overtime Theater also collaborates with local visual artists, giving them a prominent local space in which to display their works in the Blue Star Complex.

The Overtime Theater is now a non-profit organization as determined by the IRS. This decision has been made to extend the Overtime’s mission of “art for the people” to the greater community, including through low-cost workshops in acting, playwriting, comedy improv skills, and art by working professionals.

The OT Board of Directors and Operational Directors offer their expertise and talents as volunteers, and actors and the production crew are paid stipends through audience donations and grant funds. Our ticket prices are among the most competitive in the city, as we try to keep the costs down and the entertainment as accessible as possible. We are committed to building an audience with an appreciation for new, outside-the-box productions — an audience that will also support other local theaters and arts organizations.
